Introduction to Patents and Intellectual Property Data In-Person

This workshop will be held online using Zoom. A link will be provided prior to the session.

How are inventions recognized and protected? This session will cover the method for recording an invention with the U.S. Government and how to read a patent. We will look at an invention and discuss how it is described in the patent literature. We also will explore patents in the context of other forms of intellectual property such as trademarks and copyright.

Participants will

  • Understand the four forms of intellectual property
  • Learn basic concepts associated with patents and the patent process
  • Learn tools and techniques for researching the patent literature
