Language (Data) Is Everywhere! Linguistics and Language Data in Research In-Person

What kind of data do linguists use and how do they use it? Please join us for a panel that will get into the nitty gritty of linguistics data across a variety of subfields, from brain imaging to corpus analysis and beyond, moderated by Professor of Linguistics and 2020-2021 Model Research Collection Curator Claire Bowern.

Panelists:

  • Robert Frank, Professor of Linguistics
  • Maria Piñango, Associate Professor of Linguistics
  • Natalie Weber, Assistant Professor of Linguistics
  • Jim Wood, Assistant Professor of Linguistics

For this event, the Day of Data Planning Committee is delighted to partner with the Yale Department of Linguistics and the 2020-2021 Model Research Collection, Language is Everywhere: The Linguistics of Biology, Culture, and Society Across Time and Space, curated by Professor Claire Bowern. This year’s Model Research Collection makes language more visible by showing the different ways it contributes to the study of our lives: how language opens a window into the mind and brain, how children acquire language, how languages are lost and created around the world, how we can do archaeology with words and use language to study the past.

Registrants will receive a Zoom link approximately one hour before the discussion starts.

The Day of Data Spring Discussion Series is an annual follow-up to the year's Day of Data, providing an opportunity to continue data conversations at the University. This spring (2021), we are delighted to present Zoom-based talks and panels related to data infrastructure.
