Virtual Photobook Club: Monique Atherton

Virtual Photobook Club: Monique Atherton In-Person

Artist Monique Atherton will share photography books by Miyako Ishiuchi, Daido Moriyama and Kohei Yoshiyuki from her own collection and how these artists influenced her work.

Using photography as a launching point and incorporating installation, sculpture and performance, Monique Atherton explores intense personal moments luring the viewer into the various microcosmic states in which she exists. Her work aims to uncover the unspoken phenomena that reside in the subconscious realm. Atherton was born in Japan and currently lives and works in New Haven. She has exhibited in nationally and internationally. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Wassaic Project and recipient of the 2018 Connecticut Emerging Artist Fellowship. Her self-published book “First Avenue” was shortlisted for the 2017 Kassel Dummy Award. She received her MFA in Photography from the Yale School of Art in 2016.
