Working with Data in R In-Person

This session will be a hands-on workshop using R tidyverse packages such as dplyr and tidyr in order to merge, reshape, filter, and otherwise transform tabular datasets. The sample dataset we will be using is the MIMIC-III Clinical Database Demo, which is a large, freely-available database comprising deidentified health-related data associated with over 40,000 patients who stayed in critical care units of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center between 2001 and 2012. This dataset is available for download here: https://physionet.org/content/mimiciii-demo/1.4/.

Prior experience with basic R is expected. Please come to this session having completed the following checklist:

* Install R

* Install RStudio (recommended)

* Download the MIMIC-III Clinical Database Demo downloaded to your machine.

If you have questions about installation, introductory R help, or downloading the MIMIC-III Database Demo, email medicaldata@yale.edu. The teaching space (Room 112A does not have any computers, please bring a machine to use).
