Introduction to Statistical Programming in Python In-Person
Learn Python by using it to answer a real statistical question. In this hands-on workshop, you'll work through a complete analysis while learning the core programming concepts and practices needed to continue exploring Python independently.
Attendees will learn how to:
- Navigate Python in Positron and run code from a script
- Work with objects, functions, libraries, and pandas data frames
- Import, inspect, and prepare real-world data
- Calculate descriptive statistics and create visualizations
- Conduct and interpret an introductory statistical test
- Organize a reproducible project and communicate results
Preparation
Bring a laptop with Positron installed. We'll set up Python and the libraries we use together at the start of the workshop, so you don't need to install Python yourself. If you already have Python, any version is fine.
Note that while no coding experience is required, this workshop will work on the assumption that Positron is readily available. If you need support, please contact us at statlab@yale.edu.
