This class explores search methods that strengthen the comprehensiveness, rigor, and reproducibility of systematic reviews and other evidence synthesis projects. Participants will learn when and how to use general searching, known-item searching, grey literature searching, handsearching, forward citation searching, and AI-assisted search tools to locate evidence efficiently, reduce publication bias, and identify difficult-to-find sources. Through demonstrations and practical examples, attendees will evaluate the strengths and limitations of each approach and develop practical strategies for conducting thorough searches in an evolving information landscape.
Learning objectives:
- Differentiate among general searching, known-item searching, grey literature searching, and AI-assisted searching.
- Apply handsearching, forward citation searching, and database search techniques to locate evidence efficiently.
- Evaluate and refine results from traditional search methods and AI tools to support research and practice.
