Have you recently encountered an image online and wondered whether it was real or AI-generated? How can we make sense of authorship, consent, and authenticity when images are increasingly produced by machines? 

AI-generated images are everywhere—whether we are aware of them or not. In this 45-minute workshop, participants will take a closer look at the history of AI-generated art and imagery, situating current developments within broader visual and technological contexts. Together, we will examine how emerging AI tools surface critical concerns around privacy, ownership, and consent, and consider what it means to engage responsibly with visual media in a moment when the line between image and reality is increasingly blurred. 

Attendees will learn how to:  

• Analyze examples of AI-generated images to recognize issues of authorship, consent, and privacy raised by contemporary visual technologies. 

• Evaluate strategies for critically engaging with digital images in contexts where distinctions between human-made and AI-generated content are increasingly ambiguous. 

Audience: All members of the Yale community are welcome to attend.
