Faculty Programming Institute: Build New Research Workflows in R In-Person

Faculty are invited to a hands-on, two-day workshop introducing R—a widely used, open-source tool for working with data, creating graphics, and producing reproducible reports. This workshop, led by staff from Yale Library and DISSC, is designed to be practical and research oriented. You will leave with skills and templates that can be applied directly to your own research projects.

What we’ll cover:

  • Getting started with R and Positron IDE  (a free code editor for data analysis)
  • Importing, cleaning, and organizing data
  • Creating quality visualizations
  • Producing shareable outputs (tables, figure, and reports)
  • Reproducible workflows

Format

  • Two days (9:00 AM - 4:30 PM), interactive and instructor-led, with guided exercises
  • We’ll guide you and your colleagues through concepts using shared example data, and provide lab time to work with your own research data
  • Time for questions and applying examples to common research tasks

  • Lunch will be provided

Who Should Attend

  • Faculty who are new to R, or who have used it lightly, and want a structured foundation
  • Individuals familiar with another coding language or wanting to move away from proprietary data platforms to open-source tools
  • Anyone looking for more efficient, transparent, and reproducible ways to analyze and present research results
