Organizing Your Research Documents: A Crash Course Online
You're all ready to go with your research ... but everything is still in your downloads folder. Let's build a plan to get organized.
This workshop provides practical guidance on organizing your research files to cut down on the time you spend hunting for everything on your hard drive. We'll discuss how to use multiple tools together so you can spend more energy on what you actually want to do—your research.
Attendees will learn how to:
- Strategize folder and file organization, file naming practices, and documentation
- Use file organization and tagging features within reference management software
- Set up backup schedules for your reference library and research files
- Integrate multiple research tools into a cohesive workflow
We'll cover reference management software (Zotero, EndNote), Tropy, file system organization and search tools, backup strategies, file versioning, and note-taking and writing applications.
Audience: Anyone at Yale conducting research who wants to organize their digital files, citations, and notes more efficiently—whether you're just starting out or looking to improve an existing system.
Workshop incentive program: Any student who attends at least 3 library workshops this semester will be eligible to receive a FREE Yale Library tote bag. Learn more about this program here.
