Help! It’s Stuck in My Downloads Folder: understanding your filesystem and getting started with the command line Online
We’ve all been online hunting for an easier way to work with our files, and we’ve all heard, “It’d be easier to do that in the command line.” But how do you go from zero command line experience to working knowledge of the basics?
In this workshop, we will teach you how to:
- Easily navigate between current directory and directories above and below where you are
- Identify the filepath for a folder or file
- Find, read, and interpret basic documentation about using commands so you can perform the actions you need ... and avoid accidents
- Move a file ... from your Downloads folder!
This is part of a two-part workshop series, paired with “Make Your Life Easier with Version Control: Getting Started with GitHub Desktop for Projects,” and both will be using the same project files. We hope that you join us for the full series, but it’s OK if you can only make one!
