Introduction to R For Applied Statistics and Data Analysis In-Person

This workshop is designed to familiarize participants with the statistical programming language R. With a focus on building good programming habits and sound understanding of the fundamentals, workshop participants will learn to identify and work with different types of data including vectors, matrices, and data frames. Participants will also learn how to set and define their working directory, install and use external frameworks for data manipulation and analysis, make inferences about real world data and showcase those results to different audiences.

Participants should come prepared to work through live examples by bringing a laptop with R and R Studio preinstalled. To download R, navigate to The Comprehensive R Archive Network (CRAN) and download the latest version of R for your operating system. You will also need to download RStudio Desktop. Note that while we will use RStudio to introduce R in today's workshop, you are welcome to use other IDEs if you prefer (i.e., Positron, VSCode). While no prior experience with R is necessary or expected for today's workshop, we encourage you to spend some time reviewing Posit Studio's programming primers (under “The Basics”) on your own.
