GitHub Fundamentals In-Person
In this hands-on workshop, attendees will learn what GitHub does, how to create a repository and populate it with files, how to edit files, and how to share your work. We will also cover GitHub Pages, a popular way to create websites on the GitHub platform, using an example of a personal website, as well as Unix shell.
Attendees should bring their own laptop.
What is GitHub?
GitHub is a version control tool popular with researchers in any field that uses code or scripting, and for good reason — it creates a trail of what you did, when, and why to ensure that you can troubleshoot without losing your work.
Audience: Undergraduates and graduate students who are working on projects involving code, scripting, or website design, but also those who might be co-writing LaTeX papers. For workshops more tailored to high-performance computing clusters, please check in with the Yale Center for Research Computing (YCRC).
Registration: Required.
Any student who attends at least 3 library workshops this semester will be eligible to receive a Yale Library tote bag. Learn more about the Workshop Incentive Program.
