Discovering Data in PubMed & PubMed Central: Strategies for Successful Searches Online

One of the best places to find data is within scientific literature. This is where your peers write about, cite, and describe results based on data, whether it's public secondary data or primary datasets the authors have generated. In this training, we'll show you how to harness the power of PubMed and PubMed Central to find relevant data for your research, and you'll learn how to:

  • Refine your search strategies to find datasets
  • Decide whether to search PubMed or PubMed Central for datasets
  • Scan a research article for information about underlying data
  • Understand how the NIH's Data Management and Sharing Policy affects data availability
  • Learn about new forthcoming policies related to PubMed Central and open access
