Is Your Data Reusable?: How to Standardize Your Data Online

In this training, participants will learn what data standards are, why they are crucial to data reuse and interoperability, and how to get started with implementing standards.

Data standards are central to compliance with funder mandates (such as the National Institute of Health (NIH)'s Data Management and Sharing Policy, which requires data standards to be incorporated into data management and sharing plans, where applicable) and can facilitate (re)use of data and tools produced by such mandates.

In this session, participants will learn how to:

  • Define data standards and explain their importance
  • Find applicable data standards (and become familiar with several well-known examples created and/or used by the NIH)
  • Understand the basics of data standards use and implementation
