When You Can’t Find the Data You Need: Advanced Data Collection Methods

When You Can’t Find the Data You Need: Advanced Data Collection Methods Online

Are you having a hard time finding data for your project? Have you been thinking about turning to manual data collection (such as archival visits, surveys, health record transcription, etc.) or web scraping to get the data you need?

In this session, participants will learn about the benefits and drawbacks of four advanced data collection methods, including manual data collection, web scraping, data requests, and application programming interfaces (APIs), and how to select the best method based on project goals.

This session will be co-hosted virtually by the Medical Library and the Digital Humanities Lab, and co-taught by Kaitlin Throgmorton and Gavi Levy Haskell.

All participants are welcome at this session, regardless of data expertise or prior experience with this topic.
