Disaster Response Mapathon: Mapping Syria and Turkey Earthquake Areas Using OpenStreetMap Tools
Disaster Response Mapathon: Mapping Syria and Turkey Earthquake Areas Using OpenStreetMap Tools In-Person
This is a call for action from the Yale Center for Earth Observation and Yale University Library's GIS Support Services. As we all know, Syria and Turkey experienced a catastrophic earthquake on February 06, 2023. Mapping the areas that need disaster response is a critical effort; our collaborative mapping will contribute provide valuable information to first responders and organizations working to provide relief to those affected by the earthquake. We can help by adding polygons of structures that are not yet mapped by OpenStreetMap (OSM) and were impacted by the earthquake. These efforts will make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by the earthquake.
Whether you are an experienced mapper or a beginner, we welcome you to join us in this important endeavor. Our team of experts will be on hand to provide guidance and support throughout the event, and you’ll learn how to use OSM simple map editing tools. Bring a laptop. Tea and light refreshments will be provided.
