Introduction to R For Applied Statistics and Data Analysis In-Person

This multi-session workshop is designed to familiarize new and beginner users with the statistical programming language R. With a focus on building good programming habits and a solid grasp of fundamentals, participants will learn to:

• Identify and work with common data structures (vectors, matrices, data frames)
• Set and manage a working directory
• Install and leverage external packages for data manipulation and analysis
• Draw inferences from real-world data and communicate results to diverse audiences

Schedule:
Optional Tech Clinic (software installation & setup): 8:45 – 10:15 a.m.
Core Workshop: 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Preparation:
Bring a laptop with R and RStudio pre-installed if possible. (If you’d like help installing them, join the optional tech clinic from 8.45–10.15a.m.) 

  1. Download the latest version of R from the Comprehensive R Archive Network (CRAN)
  2. Install RStudio Desktop (or your preferred IDE such as Positron or VS Code). 
  3. No prior R experience is required, but we recommend reviewing Posit’s “Programming Primers → The Basics” beforehand.
