Advanced Data Collection Online

Are you having a hard time finding data for your project? Have you been thinking about turning to manual data collection (such as archival visits, surveys, and health record transcription) or web scraping to get the data you need? Do you need to request data that seems to be unavailable online?

In this virtual workshop, participants will learn about four advanced data collection methods: manual data collection, web scraping, data requests, and application programming interfaces (APIs). In considering the benefits and drawbacks of these methods, participants also will learn how to select the best method of data collection for their own project goals. Participants will also learn about making formal data requests, such as Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and others.
