Intro to GIS: ArcGIS Pro In-Person

Are you interested in integrating geographic visualization or analysis into your work, but don’t know where to start? Have you heard about spatial analysis or GIS but don’t yet know what’s possible? Come join us for an introduction to geographic information systems and sciences (GIS) using ArcGIS Pro, an industry-standard software platform. In this workshop, we’ll use hands-on training to introduce basic concepts associated with geographic information systems, spatial data structures, and common analytical tasks. The workshop will be held in the Yale StatLab classroom, room C27 in the Center for Science and Social Science Information (CSSSI). No prior experience is required.

Software Used: Esri ArcGIS Pro

This workshop covers:

  • GIS – what and why
  • Coordinate systems and projections
  • Spatial data structures and management strategies
  • Transforming tabular data into spatial data
  • Creating color-coded maps
  • Conducting basic spatial analysis
  • Knowing your resources for moving forward

Before you come

This workshop is designed for attendees who have the following:

  • a Yale NetID to use lab machines
  • basic experience with the Windows OS
