SCOPA Spring Project Showcase Online

Join SCOPA (YUL Standing Committee on Professional Awareness) for a virtual event to hear from Yale Library staff about their recent collection-based projects:

Jessica Pigza, Associate Director of Special Collections, Haas Arts Library

Designing Opportunities to Explore Artists' Books
Arts Library staff have collaborated on a series of efforts to create sustainable and welcoming paths for researchers curious about artists' books. Projects include an initiative to create browsing shelves of artists' books and related resources in the Arts Library Special Collections Reading Room for drop-in visitors, renewed in-person programming, and a refreshed libguide in progress.

Gladys Garcia, Archivist, Beinecke Library

Meserve Kunhardt family papers
Gladys will present on her experience co-processing the Meserve Kunhardt family papers, a 126 linear foot collection which had previously been part of the larger Meserve-Kunhardt Collection. The collection has been processed to varying levels by Beinecke staff over the past several years. The Meserve Kunhardt Family papers had a lot of preservation and conservation challenges, requiring adaptation and changes to the processing plan over the course of the project.

Clarrie Scholtz (she/they), Project Archivist, University Archives

RU 1 Re-processing Project
Clarrie will present on a multi-year project to re-process the RU 1 collection of approximately 1800 linear feet containing architectural drawings and maps of Yale University buildings and grounds dating from the 18th century through the 21st century. The first part of the project is an item-level survey of the collection to determine its overall physical and intellectual condition. Later stages of the project will include the creation of a new arrangement for the collection; an enhanced description of it and updated finding aid; the rehousing of items and other preservation interventions; any necessary conservation treatments; and the digitization of selected materials.

Tracy MacMath, Digital Accessibility and Design Manager, Digital Special Collections and Access

Yale Indian Papers Project
Tracy will present on the recent migration of the Yale Indian Papers Project from Findit to a new Omeka-based digital repository.

Daniel Duncan, Archives Assistant, Beinecke Library

Surfacing Women lost within collections of notable Men
Daniel will explore how he surfaced the influence of women in small additions to three separate collections of prominent men: the Havelock Ellis papers, the P.D. Ouspensky papers, and the Samuel Wells Williams family papers. Once we ask important questions about the larger aspects of human connections in our archival work, we begin to see no one acts alone. While adhering to the confines of the archival material, we have opportunities to shine light on women’s lives and their varying roles from prominent independence to domestic obscurity.
