The Cushing/Whitney Medical Library now provides access to one of the most comprehensive tools for variant annotation and analysis. Ingenuity Variant Analysis (IVA) from Qiagen** is one of a number of bioinformatics tools (https://library.medicine.yale.edu/bioinformatics) available to Yale biomedical community for free in addition to IPA, MetaCore, Partek Flow, and others. With IVA one can identify variants and verify them, and find disease-causing variants faster by using 16+ years of expert manual curation of the scientific literature. By indexing all known disease-causing biological processes, IVA can deliver new insights and increased likelihood of homing in on the causal variant one is studying.

QIAGEN’s IVA combines analytical tools and integrated content to help rapidly identify and prioritize variants by drilling down to a small, targeted subset of compelling variants. IVA can be used to interrogate variants from multiple biological perspectives, explore different biological hypotheses, and identify the most promising variants for follow-up.
10am-11am: Overview of IVA and how can it be used to identify disease associated variants:

  • Introduction
  • Data upload and sharing
  • Using the filter cascade to prioritize variants
  • Case/Control studies
  • Exporting results

11AM-12PM: Q&A and one-on-one consultations

**Please note that the library’s license to IVA is for academic and research use only. Results may not be incorporated into a diagnostic product or service.
