Using Mobile App for Outdoor Orienteering and Tracking In-Person

Instructor: Giuseppe Amatulli, Ph.D., Research Scientist in GeoComputation and Spatial Science.

Overview:

This workshop will teach students the basics of orienteering and tracking techniques using mobile apps.  It will provide in-depth coverage of the technical skills and field methods necessary in becoming proficient with maps, GPS units and GIS techniques. After the workshop, researchers will have a good understanding of how to navigate in outdoor hike, where to download free maps and how to store and correct the recorded geo-data. In other words, you will not get lost anymore!

Before you come

This workshop is designed for attendees who have the following:

  • Bring your own PC and smart phone
  • You may only observe the demos and practice later
