Data Story Slam

Data Story Slam In-Person

It's Love Data Week, and this year, the focus is on data stories.

During Love Data Week 2018 (12-16 Feb), the Center for Science and Social Science Information will be holding a Data Story Slam in our 24/7 space!

Stop by on Tuesday, February 13, between 6:00-7:00 PM for an open mic of your data stories (3 minutes) while you and the other participants eat chocolate, cookies, and other Valentine's Day fare and enjoy coffee, tea, and hot cocoa.

But what do I talk about during a Data Story Slam?

As data wranglers, many of us probably spend more time collecting, cleaning, presenting, and hunting for our data than we do interacting with our friends, families, and pets. (Unless you have a pet 01100011 01100001 01110100.) We get to know it well in times of —

  • Horror: That one time you decided not to back up your hard drive — and what happened next
  • Love: How you met your data and hit off
  • Success: What your data helped you accomplish and why it matters
  • Power: The impact your data has had on the communities it came from
  • Sorrow: When things just didn't work out

Love Data Week is an international event held during Valentine's Day Week. It focuses on sharing love, appreciation, and affection for the data that shapes and moves us. This year, the topic is data stories. Please visit https://researchdata.yale.edu/lovedata for more information about the events at Yale or http://lovedataweek.org/ for details on what is happening around the world. The hashtag for Love Data Week is #lovedata18, and you can also use the hashtag #yalelovesdata.
