Citation and PDF Management with Mendeley In-Person
Mendeley is a specific piece of reference management software. In Mendeley, you can annotate PDFs, create shared groups, and use tools to pull citation information from library databases and the open Internet. Mendeley can also link to Word or LaTeX for easy citing while writing.
In this workshop, we will discuss:
- How to install and get started with Mendeley.
- How to create watched folders so Mendeley knows where your PDF articles are kept.
- How to scrape and fix bad bibliographic data so your citations work, with a special emphasis on navigating Yale Library resources and Google Scholar.
- How to link Mendeley to Word or LaTeX and change your citation styles to match the requirements of your papers and articles.
How do you know if Mendeley is right for you? Mendeley works well for people in fields where some (or all) of the following apply:
- You work in an article-based field and don't often cite special collections or ephemera. (e.g., you are a scientist or social scientist).
- You write some (or all) of your papers in LaTeX, where you need to use BibTeX for citation.
- You need an easy way to collaborate with other people.
