YCRC: Raster/Vector Processing Using GDAL/OGR Libraries

This workshop introduces students to the powerful Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL) to manipulate raster and vector files for Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing analysis. You will use simple Bash scripts to automate many common geo-data processing tasks such as cropping and re-projecting, mosaicing, and filtering images. You will learn how to script processes for complex geo-functions.

This workshop assumes prior knowledge of Bash and basic Linux commands (See the Practical Introduction to Linux Bootcamp) and basic knowledge of Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing concepts (projection, spectral signature, etc…)

The courses, led by Giuseppe Amatulli, Ph.D. Geospatial researcher in the F&ES, YCRC and CSSSI, are aimed at researchers and professionals with a keen interest in spatio-temporal data analysis and modelling.All workshops assume a prior knowledge of Bash and basic Linux commands (attend our Practical Introduction to Linux bootcamp if needed). Attendees should have solid basic computer skills and a strong interest on geographical data analyses.   Previous experience and understanding in Geographic Information Systems and light scripting is helpful although not necessary. Laptops, with a minimum of 4GB RAM and 30GB free disk space, will be required.

The training is free to the Yale Research Community however space is limited and registration for each workshop is required.
