Finding (and Using!) Images for Presentation and Publication In-Person
This workshop is a nuts-and-bolts guide for people who are:
- Navigating the complex, confusing environment of digital images on the web — from Google Images to ARTSTOR to the Wikimedia Commons
- Using images in presentations
- Using images from previously published resources in dissertations and projects
Targeted at scientists and social scientists, this workshop will help you make better use of search engines like Google Images. It will also provide a primer on historical archives and open or educational-use-only content. Throughout the workshop, we will suggest library resources and tools that can help you figure out what rights you do (or, more likely, don't) have to use images in your work.
We will also cover the basics of citing images and provide information on where to find copyright details to stay mindful of limitations. We will close with an introduction of Fair Use analysis and resources for copyright clearance.
